National Campaign for Local Nature Reserves

Keith Richards is supporting his neighbours in a campaign to promote the use of Local Nature Reserves, and to strengthen the laws that protect small areas of unspoiled land which sustain rare or endangered plants and animals.

This campaign has been prompted by the challenge of protecting the Redlands Meadow in West Wittering, which has been identified as a rare, wildflower-rich unimproved grassland, 97% of which has been lost to development, cultivation and the use of chemicals.

Our objective is to lobby for a new kind of statutory protection for local nature reserves, similar in kind the Grade 1 and 2 listing procedures that are available for buildings of architectural importance.

We are only just beginning our campaign, but in the meantime
